Established by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1679, Fort Albany quickly became a popular trading post serving other communities. The Catholic Church built St. Anne's Hospital in Fort Albany. After 1969, the hospital was turned over to the Provincial Government and renamed the James Bay General Hospital.

James Bay General Hospital provides outpatient and emergency services and 9 Chronic Care beds, 5 Medical/Surgical Beds and 3 Pediatrics Beds in this location.
Located on Sinclair Island, Fort Albany sits on the banks of the Albany River.
