About WHA

Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin is the regional health authority for the six coastal communities along the western Ontario shores of the James and Hudson Bays (Peawanuck, Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Fort Albany, Moosonee & Moose Factory {Moose Cree First Nation and MoCreebec}) and the southerly First Nation communities of New Post, Chapleau Cree and Missanabie Cree; a.k.a. "Mushkegowuk Territory."

Incorporated in December 1993, the Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin's (WHA) mission is, "Dedicated to continually enhancing the provision of health care services to the people of the Mushkegowuk Territory." WHA provides equity to the communities and the people that it serves by having equal and fair representation on its Board of Directors; one representative for each community plus, two Medical Staff (Chief of Staff and Medical Staff President) & one regional Tribal Council member. The First Nation communities and the Municipality of Moosonee all appoint their members by the First Nations Chief & Councils and by the Township of Moosonee, respectively.
