Locums

The Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin contracts 12 full time physicians who have 4-8 weeks vacation and 2-4 weeks CME leave.  The locum physicians we are able to recruit and retain cover these leaves.  The full time physicians work on a 10-week master rotation and so when hired as a locum, often the locum is slotted into that 10 week schedule to cover the leave of the FT physician.

You will be required to cover clinic work for Moose Factory, Moosonee as well as our four coastal communities, Emergency twelve hour shifts, low risk Obstetrical call and possibly a week of hospitalist.  You are requested to have the ER courses up to date. These are ACLS, ATLS, and PALS.  To cover the Obstetrical cases we would like to see the locums have either an ALSO or an ALARM course as well as the NRP course.  This is the ideal however, if you are not qualified in these areas we do occasionally hire physicians who are only comfortable doing clinic work.

The most you are required to work will be 48 hrs. (4 – 12 hrs ER shifts) in a seven day period.

Wherever possible we organize OMA contracts between the locum physician and the FT WHA physician.  This means you are compensated for a portion of your stay from the OMA and the remainder is paid by the WHA.

You will be paid at a rate of $850.00 per day if you meet the full requirements of the practice.  If you are only comfortable doing a portion of the practice, you are compensated at $800.00 per day.  You are paid each day you are with us. You do not qualify to bill fee for service at any time during the locum contract.

The WHA will arrange the travel and accommodation for you. Wherever possible and if you are on an OMA contract we will provide you with an invoice for the travel and the accommodation costs all of which are reimbursed by the OMA.  If you are not on an OMA contract these costs are covered by the WHA. You are responsible for the costs of your meals.

The practice is very busy, is challenging and very interesting. If you are interested in a cross-cultural experience, this work will provide it for you, as you will be caring for a population, which is 95% Cree First Nations.

The situation will offer you many varied opportunities to experience the north. There are opportunities for skidooing, cross country skiing, curling and hockey in the winter months, and fishing, swimming, kayaking and canoeing in the summer.  The Health Care group is a very congenial and active group who participate in all community events when ever possible. There are many opportunities for entertainment at the coffee houses at the Eco Lodge and dances at the Complex.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to experience a wonderful part of Canada’s north.
